If one believes that carbon dioxide is an evil greenhouse gas, then logging
and using the wood for construction is desirable, as it sequesters CO2.
Comparison of old and newer photographs indicates that there are more trees
in North America now, than when the Pilgrims landed.

More than a decade ago, there was a forest fire in the area. The heat
killed many trees that were left standing. Logging was not allowed. The
dead trees were, eventually, felled by decay and wind. All this wood is
slowly decaying and releasing methane in the process. Methane is,
allegedly, a worse greenhouse gas than CO2. Go figure.

"4. Logging is a renewable resource, and logging operations are highly
beneficial to the health and well being of forests. Primarily they clean up
the forest from dead and diseased timber and debris, which helps prevent
fires and insect infestations. Mike Vanhooser"
