What do you think about the possibility that some of this hot helax shows up
at hamfest flea markets? I've seen 1/2, 7/8, 2 and 3 inch runs for sale.
usually short lengths. 50, 100 feet at the most. I've always assumed the
guys selling it were hams and came by it honestly. ?????

The former AT&T towers are a prime target for these guys, as well
as any site they consider a "Microwave" tower. We have had numerous
thefts in the past couple of years.
Most recently they have taken to stealing generators. We have started to
install cellular based tracking on some of them.
As the microwave sites get done, anyone else with a tower needs to
be very careful. Pickings have been so good, they will not want to stop.
There were three people detained in Iowa last week, and the Sheriffs office
in Lee IL have had this issue before. Lots of thefts in MO, AR, KY, TX, LA,
OK and other locations.
The vast majority of them have a common Oklahoma connection.
Read that again... The vast majority have a common Oklahoma connection.
Be VERY careful if you have a former microwave tower and someone offers
to clean it off for the scrap. Make sure they take the dishes off BEFORE
they
get the copper off.
And if that Oklahoma connection is reading this... We are going to get you.
Promise.
