FreePlay Radio is another brand of similar radio.
I bought a FreePlay Radio a few years ago at Big Lots. ($19.99)
Solar panels on top for daylight use.
Winding Crank for nighttime or indoor use.
NO place to install batteries.
Does have rechargeable NiMH batteries inside.
Battery is charged with either solar power or from the hand cranked generator.
The crank is more properly a wind-it-up.
Turning the crank winds up a spring drive.
Then as the spring unwinds (running down) the spring runs a DC generator.
This generator provides power to run the computer.
User does not have to crank continuously.
The original design was a Short Wave radio and intended for areas with NO
power. (Central Africa)
Then the inventors started making some for US and Europe use. AM / FM
frequencies.
Campers, hikers, and people wanting an emergency radio for when electric
power fails bought them.
Apparently these people didn't buy all of them.
These radios have been at Big Lots at least three times.
There are other brands with similar functions.
Google: "self powered radio" (exact phrase)
