Use Channel 5 and 6? Excellent idea.  Indeed, since it seems that most  
HDTV stations prefer the upper VHF and UHF we could use 2,3 and 4 as well.

As I remember, (often inaccurately) Eureka could fit about 5 stereo  
channels into one 1.5 mhz. wide transmission.  We could certainly migrate  
all of the AM stations, even in a large city, into one or two TV channels.  
The coverage would then be comparable to the FM stations.  For that  
matter, we could probably migrate all of the FM channels into these new  
digital bands.  We wouldn't have to use the Eureka method of encoding, but  
could probably accomplish this goal with a much more robust and gentle  
method of encoding that would not create noticeable artifacts.

Of course, to accomplish this logical eveolution of broadcasting, we would  
have to stage a coup, then kill all the lawyers......
