The FM version is certainly better on at least four different fronts...

1) Economically: You buy the box for $9,000. You own it. No license fees. 
Ever.
2) Technically: The DRM signal runs in the SCA subcarrier region of your 
existing carrier. It hooks-up just like an SCA generator(s) There is no need for a 
second transmitter, no diplexing issues, no "stomping on your neighbors".
3) Marketplace: Receiver technology is already in use, and it can be 
integrated with existing receivers. (A minor mod is usually all that's required.) It 
won't cost $300-$500 for a radio.
4) Portability: It may even be fully battery-friendly and portable, but I'm 
not sure.

It makes far too much sense, that's why we'll probably never see it happen. 
It's Khan vs Motorola all over again... the technically inferior system is 
going to "win" because of the big money behind it. The consumers will balk at $500 
table radios.
