Topographical maps still show the towers at the River Road site
(identified as "WNBC Radio Towers"). Also shown is a huge arrage of 12
towers, spanning more than a mile from end to end, on the other side of
River Road in Franklin Township. This may also have been part of the VOA
transmission facilities, or may have been for some other government
communications during the WWII and/or Cold War era. It, too, has long
since been replaced by housing developments. I doubt any evidence still
exists, except perhaps for a few concrete tower bases in people's
backyards.

That was probably was know as NBC's "Radio Central" The had commercial
message service at the site prior to the war and after the war for a while. Also
during the war many of the european correspondents reported back to New York
via shortwave. In fact some of you old farts, like myself, may remember
the shortwave reports that were used on the early Today Show on NBC TV. They
put a slide up maybe with a photo of the correspondent and pushed a button on
a big reel-to-reel tape recorder and played the shortwave report.
