WBIX's new Broadcast Electronics 4MX-50 transmitter was delivered on
Tuesday afternoon, December 6, 2005, and we put it into the antenna system
for extended, experimental hours tests on Thursday morning, December 15th,
just after midnight on 1060 kHz at 40 kW.
After watching with glee the effortless way this box hits 140% positive
peaks (of course, I'll turn them down before the experimental period is over
this morning), we watched the Delta (R) common point current meter and
noticed that there is no perceivable "carrier shift" movement on the meter
with modulation.
I was expecting to have problems with leakage of WKOX's 10 kW/1200 kHz
signal back through the triplex filters confusing the transmitters VSWR
circuitry, but that's just not happening. The effect that I thought was a
bandwidth problem in my initial tests last week turned out to be a software
glitch that has been fixed in a newer revision that's now resident in the
WBIX transmitter's controller.
Jerry Westberg and Steve Schmitt are here from BE, and John Warner is
here from Clear Channel (the site landlord).
