Of course Manilow was played on the radio in the 70's on top 40 stations.
Many a child was conceived in backs seats of cars listening to Manilow late
nites on car radios. It was great music to play while er how do I say being
otherwise occupied.

That's been the case for years. For some reason Manilow was consider
"not hip." He'd bowl over Las Vegas and sell huge numbers of records
but rarely was played on radio. I was programming AC at the time and
was criticized by other programmers for including Manilow cuts.

I was bringing Jazz cuts to WPIX-FM, New York, (now WQCD) and Manilow
did a great Jazz flavored album. I played it. We were the only
station in NYC to play what's now called Smooth Jazz. The listeners
who enjoyed Jazz didn't seem to have a problem with Manilow. Only
other programmers. Go figure.
