[BC] AM Interference

My suggestion is to open up a another piece of spectrum for digital
broadcasting and leave the current AM band alone for now. Doing this
and allowing current broadcasters to dual-broadcast would make it
possible for a transition and allow the current AM band to slowly
empty. The AM could then be allowed to be what is it best at and
that is long distance transmissions, especially at night. The band
would be less cluttered.
I know that this proposal has been turned down in the past mostly for
political and presumed economical reasons, but the money that would
be used for transistioning to IBAC/IBOC could be used for the new
band instead and the economic impact would be a net zero.
As far as the political ramifications, I am not exactly why those
concerns exist, but maybe it is time to revisit this discussion
before too much more effort and resources are put into AM band IBOC.
