[BC] Digital Intgerference (was AM Interference)

The last I knew, WBOS was playing CD's. Paul Shulens, the DOE in Boston made
his own huge CD Jukebox that runs all the stations there.

Rich,

Are they using coded material on the Hard Drive system, or the STL (or
both)?

If so, this can account for the artifacting you hear. My experience so
far is that at 96 kBPS, it's really hard to pick out artifacts...at 48
kBPS, they are there...about on average to the typical mp3 @ 128KBPS
files I hear. This assumes a purely linear audio source on Hard Drive &
STL link.

What I do notice, however, is LOTS of artifacts as the HD codec is
cascaded with any other. Most notably, commercials that are delivered to
stations in a compressed format. It's really hard to listen to HD Radio
broadcasts when these sources are playing. I find myself flipping on
the CD player during commercial breaks to find relief. Isn't it funny
how people synchronize their spot breaks? No relief anywhere on the
dial...except for Non-Com. Same goes for all the basic cable TV
channels synchronized breaks. LOL

Anyway, the HD Radio codec doesn't seem very tolerant of pre-bit reduced
  material to my ear.

The learning curve goes on....
