820 WNYC is difficult to receive in IBUZ because they only use it
sporadically. About a week ago I heard their hash generator on the air,
but today it was off again and they were broadcasting clean 10 kHz analog
audio. Rumor has it they keep it off most of the time due to listener
complaints about the hiss and the dull 5 kHz audio.
I also tuned in 1280 WADO and found their digital hash to be conspicuously
absent as well. Today they were transmitting a clean analog signal, but
their audio remains cut down to 5 kHz bandwidth.
So if any of the half-dozen IBUZ-equipped people in the NYC metro area
were listening today, the only "HD" programming they'd hear on AM were the
colon cleanser infomercials on 710 WOR.
