Exactly. It used to be (before most of you were born) that the goal was to reproduce music in the home with such accuracy that it sounded like a live performance. They used to call it "High Fidelity." What a concept (to borrow a phrase). Then the music changed to multitracked stuff, they flew the tapes to London for sweetening sessions, and of course they had at least 5 mics around the drum kit. Human beings don't have ears that listen like that, so the sound was -- and still is -- artificial. But the recordings became accepted as reality, so then the goal of the SR guys was to make the live performance sound as much like the recording as possible. Now, they just play the recording and everybody just jumps around and does karaoke, pretending that they really are singing. How sad. The next step will be to have animatronic bands and the promoters won't have to deal with eccentric, egotistical musicians. Now THAT will be progress!
