I'd rephrase that. The voice of hypocrisy is more appropriate. Like
the apology of Michael Savage, hers was because advertisers were
dropping like flies.
I have to take partial blame for that. At WOR I received an angry
call from a representative of GLAAD threatening to picket WOR for
running the show. First, I let them know we didn't carry it. We had
the real psychologist, Dr. Joy Browne. I advised them never to picket
a station. It just draws additional media attention and gives her
publicity she couldn't afford to buy. I suggested they contact
mainstream advertisers who shy away from bigotry and similar
controversy. I gave them the ABC list of major advertisers who demand
their spots not air in "controversial" programming. It worked.
