Goes back to the days after Crosley purchased WSAI from the US Playing card
Company. The building housed the transmitter, speech equipment, standby
studio and housing for the chief engineer and his family. Before WLW came
along there was a pair of towers with antenna wire stretched between them.
WSAI was later moved to an area now known as Winton Woods, a Hamilton County
park. A two tower non-D DA 5kw and d N 1 Kw.
When WLW was moved from the downtown location (rooftop of Crosley building)
a 5 Kw transmitter warmed up the wires on another flattop between two other
towers. This was in 1928.
When the 50 KW station came into being (1928) the addition to the original
WSAI building was built that most are aware of today as the home of all the
rigs of WLW history.
