" That is the only one like that that I ever saw, and I thought how
thrilling it would be to actually live in a house that had a transmitter in
it.

This reminds me of the original KDSJ transmitter building in Deadwood, SD.
The transmitter was a Raytheon and the phasor was Collins. Both were in a
knotty pine walled room in an old farmhouse. A Civil Defense shelter had
even been appended to the old farmhouse. Later, I tuned up a brand new MW-5
in place of the Raytheon when they went from 1 kW to 5 kW. At the time, the
station belonged to the Daniels brothers. Toward the end of his life, Eli
Daniels lived there. After Eli's passing, Harry Daniels sold the station.
The transmission lines, phase sample lines, tower light AC and control lines
were aerial from the farmhouse to the doghouses, suspended on short utility
poles. A trail ran under these cables. Fifteen or twenty years ago, the
area that the trail led to developed. One day, a backhoe, with bucket in
the air, went through and snagged the overhead bundle of lines and tore the
living daylights out of it. The net result was a new transmitter building
on the tower side of the trail (now a full-blown road/street), all new
lines, and a full directional proof, partially paid for by insurance. The
old farmhouse has been torn down and there isn't even any sign of the Civil
Defense shelter. I wish I had taken some photos of the old place.
