[BC] An HD Tuner for $110

Hi Dana...
I've been silent long enough on this one. I think we're headed for a train
wreck and it's not going to be a nice site. I could be wrong. I think this
whole HD thing is for the sake of HD. (you said it a bit differently but I
think we're both on the same page) I'll probably get clobbered by saying
this but I've been clobbered before and it won't be the last time.
I remember when some of the first CD's came out and we played a String
Quartet for members of the Philadelphia String Quartet. (they had moved to
Seattle from Philly) They had a real problem with it. Then CD playout units
got filtering and such and things calmed down a bit. Maybe this is what this
HD thing has to go through.
Now I DISTINCTLY remember when the system for FM Stereophonic Broadcasting
was being developed and one of the stipulations (FCC) was the listener who
had a mono receiver be able to receive that signal as good as it was before
injecting the Stereo. I don't think the same thinking is taking place here
or am I wrong? Is this a bad analogy? I don't think so.

Yep...Just try and watch a hockey game on HDTV - the slurring will drive you
nuts! But this is the FUTURE, so it must be better - RIGHT?!
Even Dish TV has artifacts by the tons now (NTSC). Whenever anything goes to
black, what you see are a bunch of square pixels with differing amounts of
black.
So much for "digital quality".

when saving photos in JPG. That would drive me nuts.
I guess we're not your "typical" TV watchers. Myself, I only watch about an
hour or two per week. That time only increases when there is something
special
I want to see. My wife watches more, but still not enough to lay down those
kind of bucks.
