Donna, you're absolutely right about "shallow and vapid", unfortunately.  But, my
point was that in the old days, TV Guide was written in such a way that anyone
could understand what the business of broadcasting was all about, and why 
broadcasters do the things we do.  Something like the way that "Car and Driver"
explains the workings of Detroit to an intelligent automotive consumer.

And it seems like there was a lot less complaining and whining from viewers
back then--not that there wasn't a lot of complaining, just not the kind of
griping we hear today.  (Anyone remember the foam bricks that were sold for people
to throw at the screen, when Cosell was doing "Monday Night Football"?  I could
use a few of those today...)

I would *love* to see some intelligent reporting, directed to the general public,
that explains things like why stations have to be so over-diligent these days
about on-air graphics during severe weather (It's not that we think viewers are
stupid, it's because the FCC says so...)
