Yes, but that is not the centennial of the event:

"Centennial n -s 1 : a 100th anniversary or its celebration" - 
"Webster's Third New International Dictionary of the English Language 
Unabridged" (Springfield, MA: G. & C. Merriam Co., 1981), p. 362.

A centennial is the 100th anniversary of an event. We celebrated the 
bi-centennial of the Declaration of Independence in 1976, not 1975. :)
