I remember when Emmis refused all satellite advertising. I don't
think it was because they were a competitor. The content of the XM
ads badmouthed radio badly. Most New York stations refused them for
that reason. Radio has accepted TV ads for decades. To prevent the
immediate loss of listeners to a TV show, some stations set a 2 hour
window. If the TV was promoting their 6pm news the spot couldn't air
past 4pm. Same with any individual show.

See above. The "new" dinosaur, Satellite radio, came out of the box
with highly negative ads about terrestrial radio. Maybe not on the
West Coast, but in New York they were viciously bashing us on our
air. Frankly, I think everyone is overreacting to all this, alleged,
competition. IBUZ is absolutely, positively critical to our survival,
they say, when there won't be portable receivers to counter the very
same type of devices that are "eating our lunch" for years to come.
In fact, it may be IBUZ that finally kills us with its interference.
