First to broadcast an annoying commercial!!!  Actually, I always thought 
the criteria included having a regular schedule, programming for a "mass" 
audience (as opposed to personal communication, such as on a telephone), 
broadcasting news and music... stuff like that.  And that would mean little 
1XE in Medford Hillside MA, 8MK in Detroit, and KDKA *all* fit those 
criteria.  So did several other stations, based on what I've read and 
studied about that era-- XWA in Montreal for example.
