Famous First Facts agrees with me and gives it to 8MK (today WWJ)-- it was
on the air with a regular schedule on 20 August 1920 and dedicated the
studios on 31 August. I have the microfilm of newspaper reports. I have
anecdotal evidence to support 1XE (later WGI), including the eye-witness
account of a reporter (Lewis Whitcomb) who went on to become program
director at a station that was in direct competition with WGI but even when
he was their competitor, he continued to tell everyone that WGI had been on
the air *at least* two months prior to the famous KDKA first
broadcast. XWA in Montreal (later CFCF) was on the air in December 1919.
