[BC] Religious radio

<I would predict it to be little old ladies living alone in fear. >

I'm not sure where this thread started, (I'd be curious to know), but one of our two Christian stations is programmed to 30-35 yrs., aimed at the GenX demo.

For 16 years we have programmed our other station to the 55+ group as there is already a Christian AC in town (programmed to those soccer moms you were talking about). Our older station (traditional worship we call it) is programmed to men/women, middle to upper income, educated, and still working or volunteering in their later years. Yes, some do live alone and are shut-ins, but that's an old stereotype. 60 is the new 50!

That is, of course, a stereotype. But, it is often true because some station management believes that older females are the only audience for Christian radio and they program accordinglly. Thus, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The contemporary music outfits, whether stand-alone or nets like Air-1 and K-Love, show a much lower demo. We have a Saturday program with pop, rock and hip-hop and the "little old ladies in tennis shoes" don't listen.

Oh -- that's a stereotype, too. The little old ladies around here are more likely to be wearing pearls and a mink stole and driving a Mercedes. But they still don't care for hip-hop.
