[BC] Discriminate Audio Processors

Branching off discussions of the "Sta-Level" Gates
unit, I recall a variety of schemes to achieve
multi-band compression.

One of the cut-rate attempts was at a little kilowatt
daytimer in the shadow of two big cities struggling to
crank AOR on an AM outlet.

We used three dbx160s fed by a Crown splitter and then
recombined. That setup sounded better than its
predecessor at the same station, the UREI BL 40
"Modulimiter." The BL40 was interesting with an
automatic input phase reverser intended to make the
most out of assymmetrical modulation. Unfortunately,
there was noise when it switched phase, and the GM
noticed it so we disabled that feature.

I have seen many of Mike Dorrough's DAP 310s, and for
Christmas I just got its successor the DAP 610 (with
the LEDs to indicate levels rather than a meter
movement).

Any user experiences with the 610? From all I've
heard it's considered a classic. I plan to pair it
with my Collins 300-G on 160, 75 and 40 meters AM on
the shortwave ham bands.
