More likely the 6386, a variable-mU dual-triode.

I think the Sta-Level was a push-pull device; the variable-gain stage 
probably drove a 12AT7 or equivelant...which would have been configured as 
cathode-follower drivers of an output stage (push-pull 6V6's?)
