And much as I love my Christian friends, I am perfectly happy being
Jewish. It is a gift to me. I don't worry about being "saved" because the
Bible that I read says my job is to do my part to make the world better
(see Micah 6:8) and trust in Him to decide who will and won't be with Him
in the final days. The Talmud says the righteous of ALL nations will
inherit the kingdom, and it's my belief that no matter what your religious
faith, if you live a compassionate and ethical life, G-d will judge you
accordingly. Now, I understand there are those who disagree with this, and
I don't wanna get into a theological debate. All I want to do is say that
for me, being a Jewish person is something I cherish, and I also respect
and love those who are of other traditions-- mom (may she rest in peace)
taught me to treat others as they treat me. For the most part, members of
this list have treated me with courtesy and respected my beliefs. I try to
do the same for theirs. Now, before we get into a theological battle that
truly cannot be won, it's back to work we all go, hopefully to do our part
to bring tolerance, kindness and forgiveness to a world where anger and
nastiness sometimes seems all too prevalent. Happy new year everyone.
