...check THIS out: a bunch of British TV history buffs are hoping to 
mark the 70th anniversary of the start of BBC TV (2 Nov 1936) by 
putting the old 405-line B/W TV system back on the air on the 
original channel ("channel 1," 41-45 MHz) from the original BBC TV 
site at Alexandra Palace in north London.

They're running into hassles with OFCOM (the British telecom 
regulator), but they're still hopeful they can get it all put 
together in time.

I'm going to let them know about the Alpine commemorative broadcasts 
- perhaps Steve Hemphill and the gang can give them some advice on 
how to work the bureaucratic maze to their advantage. They're both 
using the same frequency range, after all (although over there, the 
41-45 MHz range was apparently reassigned to the military after it 
was removed from TV use in the 80s.)
