A 27" set is roughly 16 x 20 or 320 sq. in. at 14.5 psi, or over
4600 lbs. force on the CRT face. Accelerating a 1 pound chunk of
glass with that energy gives you a chunk of glass moving with a
"muzzle" velocity that is very significant. It could blow a hole
through you with ease. Demands as much respect as a small cannon.
In most the aquadag area on the outside of the tube was scaled
down to a small area to limit the amount of HV charge. Usually,
the doorknob in the HV section had more Joules stored, but
clipping a lead from the HV terminal to the chassis is still a
very good idea. <g>
