>Actually, the police band started at 1500

Pre-NARBA, the MW band was 550-1500, with the now 1490 locals being on
1500, and the now 1500-1530 clears being on 1460-1490.

NARBA added 540 as a clear, moved the 1460-1490 clears to 1500-1530,
moved the 1500 locals to 1490, added clears from 1540-1580 and added
regionals at 1590 and 1600.

NARBA also permitted in a reduction of the same-market channel spacing
from 50 kHz to 40 kHz, although Mexico elected to use 30 kHz for such
spacing.

Pre-NARBA, L.A. had ..., 900, 950 and 1000, ... .

Post-NARBA, L.A. had ..., 930, 980 and 1020, ... . (1000 was supposed to
move to 1030, but what is now KTNQ was moved +20 kHz, not the +30 kHz
which it should have been; this was possible because of the new 40 kHz
same-market channel spacing).

The MW police band station which served West L.A. still existed well into
the 1960s at Santa Monica Blvd. and Purdue Ave. Roof-top mounted.

Certain "film noir" from the 1940s had simulated police calls which would
have come from that station.

"The Big Sleep" comes immediately to mind.
