Hello, boys and girls.
Once upon a time there was a nice man who was President. He lived in a big
White House in a city called Washington. But some people in his country were
very sad, because there was a war in another place. And the price of
gasoline went goofy. But they all lived happily ever after. Somehow.
The end.
Sorry. Couldn't resist. Seriously, one of the biggest problems I have with
60 minutes and other "newsmagazines" IS the storytelling. Once you make a
"story" out of it, the spin really goes on, and they start pushing all the
emotional buttons. At least when they're in a "just the facts" mode, there's
at least a sembalance of objectivity. I pretty much can't/won't watch the
newsmagazines, because it seems like their point isn't to present a news
story, it's to suck out an emotional response... sympathy/empathy, anger,
shock, outrage.
