>From what I understand, the powers-that-be reasoned that since Digital radio is a 
good thing (debatable) we should put it on all types of broadcasts, TV, FM, and AM.  
What they apparently did not realize when they made this decision is that AM is a 
different beast than TV and FM in that it has skip at night. Whether that is from 
ignorance, willful or otherwise, I don't know, but it is something they did not fully 
understand.
