IIRC, WCCO had been an early adopter of carts but they were burnt a couple of
times (maybe by ATC or ITC Criterion machines?) And at the rates they were
getting for spots on that station, I'm sure they quickly went back to the
"tried-and-true."
Interesting...I did the 40 hours of audio on CDs for their 80th Anniversary book,
and listening on studio speakers during the mastering, you can hear lots of places
where the commercial begins with the subterranean rumble of the RCA turntable
clunking in, followed by the cue burn :-))
