  I had no idea open wire feed was still in

 The open wire feed at WSM started giving problems a couple of years ago so
Watt Hairston had a 3" coaxial cable buried from the transmitter building to
the tower.  The 3' coax is far more reliable than the open wire but not
nearly so interesting.  The old feed line still remains in place along with
its supports but is only window dressing these days and a nice place for
birds to sit.
