We tried! On the list of 88 stations to get an EB auth, we were number 283.

Someone else said that the changes to DST doesn't actually change our
sign-on. "Technically" that's true, as it's always related to the relative position
of the Sun... but our *listeners' schedules* are changed! What was once 6:45am
sign-on in November will now become 7:45. That's horrible!
WTOP's signal is absolutely incredible up this way during darkness, and
really plays havoc with ours near each end of the day. Even if the FCC were
gracious, and gave us the April PSRA of 290 watts from 6:45-7:45am, we'd be fortunate
to get *maybe* 1/2 mile of *useful* coverage in our major lobe because of
WTOP's flamethrower.
I have measured WTOP peaking as high as 20mv/m in winter, with *average*
peaks around 10mv. I live about 12 miles LOS from WFIF, in the major lobe. I get
7mv here when we're at 5Kw, and about 2.3 when we go to 500w. It's not too hard
to figure out the winner of that "signal war". After 4:30pm in Nov & Dec, we
may as well be off-the-air if you're more than 5 miles away, even in the major
lobe. Forget the sides/back.
BTW, WSTC is totally non-existant, here. It's all WTOP. Only on extremely
rare instances, have I ever heard even a hint of that Detroit(?) 1500 station. Of
course, their 9-tower flashlight beam doesn't put much signal this way.
