I have posed that question several times. There doesn't seem to be a good
answer. I've pointed out that in the Scandinavian countries and parts of
Europe, television is basically soft-core pornography, maybe even hardcore
late at night. And many of the violent movies we watch here, are banned
there. I can't help but wonder if there's a connection between that and the
low crime rates in those countries. An argument here is that pornography
encourages sex crimes. Really? Then do violent movies and video games
encourage violent crime? A look at statistics would seem to say yes. But
then someone comes along and says something like, kids know the difference
between movies, TV, games, and reality. I've heard that from people I know
who play a lot of computer and RPG (Role-Playing Games) on the Internet. But
I wonder. Another answer given is that people in Scandinavia are a different
breed and temperament of people. I guess if I had all the answers I'd be at
some famous Institute writing papers and getting rich.
