One interesting thing about the KNEW (ex-KEWB, exx-KLX) site is its TVC 
... tide-variable-capacitor ... required to keep the array "in", as the 
tide height varies.

A PVC pipe with a conductive center and outer conductor, with the salt 
water as the "shorting bar".

An ingenious solution to a "periodic" problem.
