How about VP-50? Or, going back to the 40's the 10 KW WE FM whose number
I can't recall? Then there was the truly unforgettable Gates FM-20B.
Or, how about my own special favorite, the RCA BTF-20D, a two headed 
monster if there ever was one.

BTW, if you had the right equipment, the Vanguard was not too bad. All
you needed was a wideband scope, an OIB, and an early spectrum analyzer. <g>
