Yes, indeed, we have power poles in many back yards. Mostly low voltage (in
power company circles), IIRC 9 kV overhead and 240 V to feed the houses. A
good friend of mine runs a 6-meter EME array less than 100 yards from some
huge power transmission towers that cross his property. I believe the
voltage in them is around 130 kV, and they're close enough to cause arcing
in pipes when he hauls them up the tower, so he grounds the pipes with
battery jumper cables when he works on them.
Around here, gas comes by underground pipe from the utility company, but
many rural homes (and transmitter sites) have 500 gallon LP tanks.
