[BC] WSUN

I believe that currently, the WSUN calls are unused. For a while, after
leaving 620, those calls were on 910 in Plant City (ex-WPLA), which is now
owned by Salem and I believe runs // with co-owned WTBN 570 Pinellas Park
(ex-WHNZ). Coverage-wise the 570/910 combo makes a lot of sense because 570
has a good signal along the coast (protects 580 in Orlando) and 910 is good
in eastern Hillsborough as far west as the eastern edge of Tampa and
probably in at least some of Polk County. Salem has just bought 860 WGUL
Dunedin and 930 WLSS Sarasota. It will be interesting to see how Salem
juggles the formats on all of those signals. Salem's right-wing talk format,
which doesn't currently air in Tampa Bay, seems made to order for that area.

I assume that unless the former owner of WGUL is leaving the business, he
will hang onto WGUL-FM (I forget the COL on that one) and keep the
adult-standards format going there. But it's not a full-market signal by any
means and adult-standards formats are getting harder and harder to sell as
all time buyers (even for small businesses) seem convinced that everyone
over 54 has already died--even along the Gulf coast.

My mom lived in Hillsborough County for the last eight years of her life and
she didn't die until she was 104. OTOH, she didn't listen to the radio much
when she was down there because she had become quite deaf.
