You'd realize very quickly why they cost as much as they do.  Calibration 
grade test equipment, specialized parts, standard field sources (that must be 
regularly calibrated themselves), etc, cost a great deal.  And then there's 
the ever increasing cost of labor.

It's a small market to begin with.
