[BC] The actual quality

Not only the room !
Back in the mid 70s, we did a comparative listening test on two candidates
for control room monitors: Klipsch Heresey vs, JBL (whatever the popular
"professional" model was that was a tad smaller than an AR-3A; maybe the pro
version of the L-100). At a low to modest listening level, they sounded
about the same. As the level was increased, the Heresey kept sounding like
more of the same up to pain threshold, while the JBL at first changed
character then became _really_ grundgy. Didn't even need to play the
efficiency card (the Heresey is probably the most efficient acoustic
suspension speaker ever made, what with the woofer being back loaded with
that magical stuff: air!, so it worked great with the 8 to 10 watt monitors
of the day.)
