Very interesting article... especially this portion:
"How does it benefit radio to develop a technology which, by 2010, will be
used by far less than one in every ten households when each of those same
households now has five conventional radios? How does this suit the
interests of our advertisers?
When twice as many consumers pay to subscribe to something as choose to get
it for free, what does that teach us?
How does it benefit radio to develop a marginally appealing technology when
the trends clearly indicate that consumer interest is elsewhere?"
How close have the predictions of this survey group been in the past? (I
assume that they're fairly accurate.) The article closes by asking us to "spread
the word" because it's not likely to appear in any full-page ads anywhere. In a
way, this Forum is like a full-page ad in Radio Guide, simply because so many
Professional Broadcasters are here reading and participating. It SHOULD be
getting attention across the board!
In 4-5 years, they're saying IBUZ will most likely have less than a 10%
penetration rate. Is the ROI on this thing even close to profitable, especially
when the never-ending fees to iBorg are factored-in?
