Ding Ding Ding....Cowboy is a winner....I think Volume Units are also related to the Bell....which is another unit...named after Alexander Graham of the same name....divided into 10, we recognize it as a decibel. or dB. The capital B is for Bells last name.

   "Volume Units" and if memory serves, was intended to be an approximation
   of the ear's response to changes in audio level.
