In the 60's at a station in Billings, Montana we had a console that had
a pot labeled "NEMO" and it was the pot for all the remotes. I asked the
engineer what it meant, and was told it was a hold-over from telephone
company jargon meaning Not Eminating from Main Office. Now I, too, have
heard that this may or may not be the actual origin of the term, but of
all the stories I've heard it makes the most sense. As for a photo I
don't think I can find one. I also recall a two-turntable unit with a
small mixer in the middle with a mic pot, two pots for the turntables and
a pot for whatever else you might connect had the "aux" pot marked
NEMO. This thing was a green fiberglass type unit designed to be used
as a portable unit. The label was original from the factory that way.
