Ah good old NBC, giving many different versions of the same legend... I 
have a number of old books from that era and not one of them mentions a 
telephone company term called 'nemo', plus the story about "not emanating 
[from] main office" didn't get floated to the press till about 1934, based 
on what I've seen in old issues of newspapers.
