Sony has voluntarily discontinued the rootkit on their products.  The story is in link on 1.

Anti-Spyware
Anti-spyware software from Microsoft, including Windows Defender, will be updated to delete the rootkit component of the controversial XCP digital rights management scheme used by Sony BMG Music Entertainment

Got this listfrom a local list, don't know if it has been posted here  
(been out of town since Saturday).  May be something to pass on to the  
production people along with a supply of green magic markers & a nail file!
The same list notes that Mac's are not immune from Sony's software  
deviltry, the copy protection software installs two kernel extensions on  
Mac OSX machines. It does not automatically install like it does on  
Windows machines.
