Yes.
There's a defective bit to indicate it's an audio CD. If the aucio CD recorder
doesn't see that bit, it will reject the CD.

Another example of how special interests run this country. It used to upset me
that I was paying (and some still do pay) 10 cents per cassette to the RIAA so
I could record college lectures on blank cassettes.

Also, have you ever wondered why there are no stores that rent CD's? There
used to be. Besides, we have VHS and DVD rental stores. The answer is that the
RIAA lobbied Congress back in the 1908's and had them banned.

We truly DO have the best government that $$ can buy and I think they should
all be tossed out on their oversized asses!

The data CD only works in computer CD burners.  As you noted, the audio CD 
burner appliance will not recognize the non-music blanks.
