Linc is an amazing man. A fine gentleman, who is also a gentle man. When it
comes to ye Olde Tyme Radio, he's been there, done that. Anything analog, and
he is absolutely in his element. All this digital stuff, though, leaves him
cold. He can tell some War Stories, that's for sure! I love listening to him tell
of some of the things he's seen and worked on through the years.
I am guessing that what you saw, was, indeed, this very same box that now
sits in my TX room. I need to put everything back together again, wire it all up,
then test it into the dummy load. I also need to take apart the x-tal oven
unit, and see what kind of x-tal it wants.
Thinking of Linc's War Stories, there was a good one he told that happened
quite some time ago. WARV's signal was going up and down, rather drastically,
almost rhythmically one day. He punched-up the remote control, and saw the plate
current jumping up and down. When he went out to the TX site, he noticed some
kids inside the fence, near the tower. They had found a pie tin, and were
using it to draw arcs off the tower! (It was this TX that endured that. Never
left the air, just kept playing.) After getting them to stop, he gave them a
lecture about RF and danger, etc. They learned their lesson.
