Is that WDAE now?. That was one of the first directionals in the country.
It was WSUN for years 620 kHz. The had the first time I was there an RCA 5F,
Later on a RCA 5L2 we replaced with a CE 316F two-tube with AM Stereo and
the later on under Cox we install a 316G solid state rig. May have been
replaced.
They originally were directional with WTMJ Milwaukee when they were on the
same frequency probably 600 before NRBA. The two stations are credited for
being the first two DA's. WDAE was on 1260 I think but also was a real
early station. They used to have papers in the glass cover bulletin board
showing authorizations from the Maritime Commission in New Orleans for
oepration, before the FRC and the FCC.
The last I heard WDAE and WFLA were being diplexed together when one of the
got a power increase. 160 and 970 kHz. Wilson Welch was CE and is still
CC's CE in the market a great guy and knows his stuff.
