You are correct, I left the area and the Company in the late 60's
and never went back, so it is entirely possible that I may have the
location in error. I do remember at the time that the towers were
located on the North side of I-90 and were originally built by TCA
Tower out of Atlanta (Cliff Tant) There were two three tower, 180
degree spacing, lines of towers spaced 90 degrees from one
another. The design of the Array was initiated by Wm. E. Benns, and
I did the math.
At the time of design 1960-1962 all the agreements with Cuban
protection were still in force which protected the entire North Coast
of Cuba to 5 Microvolt, the same protection was afforded to the
Southern border of Canada.
690 KHz was almost empty back then, however making the whole thing
function took a lot of work.
All the Transmitters were Brennan designs using Water cooling,
grounded grid Dougherty, with capabilities of Supermodulation.
Those were the "Majestic" years to be an Engineer in broadcasting.
Modulation wars were truly that, wars, with many incidents of
equipment sabotage, some quite ingenious.
