[BC] Arrays separated by highways

Your are indeed correct. I decided to go to the horses mouth and ask Leroy.
He say the lines going across the street form a 600 ohm balance line.
(Didn't look like there were enough cables there.) The current configuration
was designed by A. Earl Cullum in the 40's.

I wasn't around for the tower fall, but I remember the story. The old guy
anchors for the two towers are still visible when the yard is trimmed.

I believe the lineage was Coleman Barber > ??? > Gary Whachter > Leroy
Dietrich .. Gary took KTSA stereo with the Kahn system. I remember
listening to it with dual radios...didn't sound to bad, but I think Marvin
Fiedler had the best stereo sound at KCOR, but that's another thread.

I apologize for any names incorrectly spelled.

Dan

When I was at KTSA/KTFM in the late 70's and early 80's, the towers were fed
with open wire feed lines to the towers, over Eisenhauer Rd. I was on the
top of the old building when they took down one the towers--it fell the
wrong way and severed the line that was feeding another tower. Even though
the feed line was ( I think it was 6 or 7 concentric wires) was hot and
buried under the fallen tower, the Continental transmitter kept
transmitting, and Charley Brown never even knew he was off the air. The
engineer (we called him RF Burns--you'll see why in a moment) had some
Heliax for another project handy and rigged it with automotive jumper cables
to one of the towers. The end closest to tower began arcing to ground and
set the field on fire, requiring the services of the fire department.
Bernie Waterman was not pleased....

Talked with him a week or so ago. Apparently the project is still in the
works. I drove by on the way home and it doesn't look like he travels RF
across the street, but everything else is over head.

Dan,
I was told me the plan was to get everything under ground a long time ago,
about 1990 I guess it takes some time to develop a game plan.

Say Hi to Leroy for me next time you see him.
